LUMI LUMI Vision Secures U.S. Design Patent for CORONET™ Prescription Insert
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — July 21, 2026 — LUMI LUMI Vision today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a U.S. design patent for the distinctive ornamental design of the company's CORONET™ prescription insert. As the first product developed by LUMI LUMI Vision, CORONET established the athlete-first design philosophy that continues to guide the company's approach to performance eyewear for athletes who require prescription vision correction.
The inspiration for CORONET came during a ski and snowboarding trip to Coronet Peak in New Zealand, where the founders experienced firsthand the compromises athletes often face when prescription vision and performance equipment don't work together. What began as a shared challenge became the foundation for LUMI LUMI Vision and its mission to develop thoughtfully designed performance eyewear for athletes.
Founded by siblings Anthony and Dianna Zheng, LUMI LUMI Vision builds on a foundation of decades of family experience in optical manufacturing while bringing a fresh, athlete-first approach to product development. Named after Coronet Peak, CORONET became the company's first product and laid the foundation for a growing portfolio of performance eyewear.
Led by 3D designer Jean Durfee, the team developed CORONET through an iterative process that combined industrial design, engineering, and athlete-driven product development. Inspired by contemporary automotive design, the result is a prescription insert distinguished by its clean, integrated form while remaining purpose-built for performance sports.
“Our goal has never been to build a single product. From the beginning, we've focused on solving real problems for athletes who wear prescription lenses. CORONET was the first step, and receiving a U.S. design patent reinforces our commitment to continuing that work through thoughtful design, engineering, and innovation.”
Since introducing CORONET, LUMI LUMI Vision has expanded beyond snow sports to develop performance eyewear for pickleball, cycling, volleyball, running, and other active lifestyles. The company continues to collaborate with athletes, eye care professionals, and sports vision experts, including Dr. Jarrod Davies, President of the International Sports Vision Association, to refine existing products and inform future product development.
“Athletes put tremendous thought into every piece of equipment they use, and we believe prescription eyewear should be no different. Every product we create begins by understanding the athlete's experience and designing solutions that feel like a natural part of the sport. That philosophy started with CORONET and continues to guide everything we build.”
